NATHAN MATTOCK

Nathan is Partner of Marque Lawyers and provides specialist advice and assistance to Cotters.


Nathan has extensive legal and commercial experience in patents, trademarks, copyright and design related matters.   He has led the legal field in protecting the intellectual property rights of his clients and has been involved in landmark IP & Technology cases in Australia. 


Nathan has been involved in landmark High Court and Federal Court cases and regularly drafts licences and agreements and advises clients in relation to the exploitation of intellectual property rights.


Nathan specialises in:

  • Product licences and distribution agreements focussing on achieving commercial outcomes for clients. 
  • Intellectual property disputes including preparing and prosecuting opposition proceedings for patents and trademarks. 
  • Marketing and brand management advice and assisting clients in implementing strategies for the protection and enforcement of IP rights.

  • AVRA v Warner – Federal Court test case on copyright and DVD technology
  • AAF v Kaos and Sexsy – Federal Court trademark and copyright cases involving raids on illegal movie outlets in Sydney and Brisbane
  • Television Broadcasts Limited v A-Skynet – International intellectual property dispute involving the unauthorised broadcast of television and movies from Taiwan, Fujian Straits, China and Australia
  • Gilsan v Optus, APT v Optus, Telecom Vanuatu v Optus – telecommunications industry litigation in involving international traffic to Pacific Islands
  • Video on Demand Pty Ltd - Acting for movie content provider in Federal Court claim against A.C.T. network provider
  • Readers Digest - Advice in relation to IP issues, drafting of IP agreements, deeds of assignment and licenses.
